Who would have thought back in 1907 that Mattern's Floral and Furnishings would be the business it is today? My grandparents, John and Elizabeth opened their small flower shop on Hazle Street in Ashley over 100 years ago. Business was going pretty well, so they decided to move to a larger location. In 1928, they bought a house on East South Street, Wilkes-Barre and built a flower shop right next door. This is where my dad, Harry, grew up and learned the floral business from his dad. For me, working at the store just seemed like the natural thing to do since my last name was Mattern.

I was already married to Maria and had three young children, who also grew up spending time at the shop in Wilkes-Barre. I saw all of the potential the business had and made the decision of a lifetime and moved to our new location in Kingston. With a larger location, Maria was able to lend her creative eye to the business and develop home accessory and gift niche.

Our business has changed with the times, but we still hold very firmly to the customer service and work ethic passed down through each generation. Also, we truly appreciate our community for continuing to support our local, small business.
